Mixed Level Lyra Training

This class is designed to help develop strength, fundamental skills, endurance in the air and aerial vocabulary on the lyra. All levels of experience are welcome to attend the class; however, the focus will be for those people who have had 2 months to a year of lyra experience.

$10 for members, $15 for non-members.

Important Note: The maximum number of students for the class is six. It will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Also, bringing a yoga mat for the warm up sequence is recommended.

Always wanted to try Trapeze? Here’s your chance! Take a class with Colleen!  You’ll learn a warm-up for the body, and injury prevention exercises for the shoul­ders as well as skills in the air on the sta­tic trapeze. There will be three classes offered:

Intro to Trapeze

Sunday February 10th, 12pm-2pm

Have you wanted to try static trapeze and never had the chance? Trapeze newbies, this class is for you!

Prerequisite: Be in a healthy place with your shoulders; no previous aerial experience necessary.

Beginning Static Trapeze
Sunday February 10th, 5pm-7pm
Have you done just a bit of static trapeze or lyra (such as Intro to Trapeze last time) and want to refine and add to your skills? This class is for you!

Prerequisite: this workshop is for anyone who attended Intro to Trapeze last time, or have done just a bit of static trapeze or lyra.

Continuing Static Trapeze
Sunday February 10th, 7:30-9:30pm
This workshop focuses on build­ing your bal­ance, strength, flex­i­bil­ity, and static trapeze vocabulary. Class includes a quick warm-up, as well as floor exer­cises fol­lowed by tech­nique, aer­ial con­di­tion­ing and skills on the static trapeze. We’ll spend the bulk of the workshop building your trapeze vocabulary as well as honing your technique in the skills you already have in a sup­port­ive, non-competitive envi­ron­ment.

Prerequisite: previous, multiple experiences on trapeze or lyra within the past year.

Colleen McK­e­own is a solo, duo and ensem­ble cir­cus per­former and instruc­tor who spe­cial­izes in Duo Trapeze and Part­ner Acrobal­ance, as well as per­forms bur­lesque nation­ally. Always active, she grew up play­ing team sports, cycling and horse­back rid­ing. Her cir­cus addic­tion began in 2003 with Wise Fool New Mex­ico in Santa Fe and trav­eled on to 2 years of pro­fes­sional cir­cus train­ing at the New Eng­land Cen­ter for Cir­cus Arts in Brat­tle­boro, VT. In addi­tion to per­form­ing and teach­ing, she has directed Wise Fool New Mexico’s annual women’s cir­cus pro­gram, BUST. Colleen has been a licensed mas­sage ther­a­pist since 1997. She spe­cial­izes in Thai and table mas­sage and most recently fin­ished Yoga Teacher Train­ing. She finds both of those prac­tices very valu­able in inform­ing her cir­cus skills and coach­ing. Colleen has also pro­duced the wildly pop­u­lar, Femme-O-Lition Derby (an annual show which fea­tures queer femmes) in Albu­querque and Santa Fe, NM and FUSE, a cir­cus, bur­lesque and drag show in Northamp­ton, MA. Colleen has a par­tic­u­lar pas­sion for cre­at­ing part­ner work, whether it be on the ground or in the air. Classes!

 There will be a class this Sunday! The beginning level class is at 7-8pm, and the advanced class is from 8-9. Prices are $15 non members and $10 for members for each class. All classes are in our space at the Kosmos and taught by Ilana Blackman, who teaches at Wise Fool as well. 

 

Conditioning Classes

This month Avery will teach a sweet class on the first 2 Fridays of the month.

Come get buff!! Train better, stronger. This class will use a yoga/pilates based warm up and a circuit of reps with a partner on the floor, lyra, and fabric, with a short cool down a the end. We will focus on core, arm and shoulder strength, as well as legs, butt, pelvic floor, and flexibility.

PLEASE BRING A YOGA MAT
As we condition more, the skills classes here or at Wisefool and our personal training will be even more effective and fun. Techniques in this class will also give you ideas for doing a solid warm up when you are on your own.Plus, we will develop community, inspiration, and support!

Open to all, intended for those with previous aerial experience and a desire to excel in circus arts.

Members of the Albuquerque Aerialist Collective:
sliding scale $5-10 (7 suggested)

Non-Members: $10-15 sliding scale ($12 suggested)

Classes are held at the Albuquerque Aerialist Collective Space, at the south end of the Factory on 5th. 1715 North 5th. Come

**Please come 10 minutes early to get changed, pee, check in, etc. Class starts at 9:30 promptly. **

If this class is successful and people want it, it will become a regular weekly class. Class is taught by Avery Kalapa, 500 RYT, who has been teaching yoga since 2004, and training aerials since 2010. Feel free to text Avery with questions at 505 244 0570 or send them a message on FB.

Deirdre Morris from Wise Fool NM in Santa Fe will be in ABQ for our first Fabric Workshop on April 15th from 11am – 1pm. Space is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $30.00 for Collective Members, $35.00 for drop in students. Basic saftey & rigging plus skills. Please sign up on facebook to reserve your space.

 

Keep in mind that you either need some previous aerial classes or this class to play in the space.
